I watch the sunset with an unwavering gaze; as a fiery orb of orange gradually descends past the horizon, pigmented light lingers in the sky as it mingles with the tranquil and wispy clouds, tinting the heavens with blues, pinks, and oranges, until it dissolves into a pastel mauve hue. Sunsets may only be present for a fraction of the day, but they end up being the parts I anticipate the most. I find myself running up hills and climbing cliffs by the beach to chase them before they’re gone.
“The sunset perspective will allow you to live a more fulfilling life.”
This was the first line of one of my journal entries, a reminder to myself of the way I want to live and the person I want to be.
Sunsets fill me with wonder. When I look at a sunset, I never critique it. Each sunset I witness is different in colors, unique in its shape, and scattered across the sky in its own way. I never find myself saying, “oh this sunset would be a lot better if there were more orange on the right or a deeper pink hue all across.” Instead, I’m in awe and admiration, and I never compare one sunset to another. This is the sunset perspective: a deep appreciation for the beauty and uniqueness intrinsic to every object, every person, and every moment.
Approach life with the sunset perspective in mind. The sunset perspective allows you to appreciate the simple but fleeting beauties ever-present in daily life.
