Being a college student in the summer almost always includes these three truths: you are broke, you are bored, and you desperately need a job. Some of us have our lives together and figured out a super cool, glamorously located paid internship. As for me? I did my resume at the last minute and crossed my fingers. So this is for those of us working the crap pay, dirty, frustrating jobs at the bottom of the food chain. If you're like me and work two jobs, your day probably looks something like this:
- Oh. My. God. WHY is it 6 A.M.? WHY did I think having a job in the morning was a good idea?
- *three snoozes later*
OH MY GOSH IT'S ALMOST 6:30
- Hello giant coffee mug, can we get married?
- WHY is morning traffic a thing no one should be up at this hour?!
- And then you finally get to work, running into the building five minutes late with half a protein bar in your mouth.
- At long last, you get to sit down and get to work. Only then you're...working. Ew. (As someone in the packaging business, I can assure you that putting pieces of paper into other pieces of paper is like, so interesting.)
- Run to the coffee pot at break to fill your precious-future-spouse mug back up with the terrible Folgers coffee at work because you're desperate and COFFEE
- It's lunch. I get to leave. BLESS
But then, job #2. LET'S GO HOST, BABY
- Step 1: Wear your fakest smile
- Step 2: Get yelled at by servers for doing your job
- Step 3: Get paid what will definitely end up being below minimum wage after tip portions
- Step 4: Go home and nap. Nap all the time. Nap everywhere.
- Step 5: Go back to work and fall in the kitchen, getting a nice chunk of glass in your hand
- Step 6: Know that at the end of the day, these are some of the best days of your life. Even if you're working, you're still making the best memories.
