If you've ever written some sort of article, paper or essay, you know the pain that writer's block can have. As a writer, it's one of my worst nightmares. Being an Odyssey writer, I have to write and submit an article each week by Saturday at 3 p.m. During the school year, it was easy to come up with topics to write about each week. However, my brain is in full summer effect by now, and thinking of topics is a little hard to come by.
First, when you have writer's block, it's really not that easy to fix. No matter how hard you try, you just can't seem to think of what you want to say or how to say it. It's not so much that you can't decide what to say, you just can't think of anything to say. Yes, this article is based off of pure irony because I'm writing about having writer's block, which I clearly don't.
Most of the time, I like to think I'm fairly creative when it comes to things I want to write about. One of the things I love about being an Odyssey writer is that they give us writers so much freedom in our articles. Almost no topic is off limits, and they respect our ideas and values. I don't take advantage of that because a lot of websites don't give their writers a whole lot of leeway. However, due to having to continue writing articles throughout the summer months, it's hard to think of article topics.
Writer's block affects nearly everyone. Whether it's writing a paper or essay for a class or perhaps writing for a platform such as Odyssey. Earlier today, I was sitting on the couch, thinking about what I was going to write about for this week. I just couldn't think of a single thing I felt I could write a good article on. Then after a few minutes of pondering, I thought of an easy, ironic topic to write about. That topic was writer's block. As I said earlier, there's a lot of intentional irony in this article, but hey, who doesn't love some comical irony?
Writer's block can have a heavy negative impact on that writer. I know I sound like I'm explaining that writer's block is a chronic illness, and even though it's not, it sure feels like it sometimes. Once you have writer's block one time, it's bound to return again. It really doesn't have any symptoms other than the realization that the creative sector of your mind is completely shut down for the time being.
Even though this article wasn't one of my more "serious" topics, I enjoyed writing it. I enjoy writing all of my articles. Honestly, I'm extremely glad I found writing. I think that college is a time where everyone finds a new hobby or thing that they like to do, and I think that writing is mine. Whether it takes me anywhere, I don't know. But for the time being, I'm going to keep trying to battle writer's block and write some great articles along the way.
