The Struggles of Fall in New England
Johanna Celli

Fall is one of the best seasons of the year. There’s Halloween, Thanksgiving, apple picking, pumpkin carving, etc. If you live in New England, you’ll see trees turn from Kelly green to vivid reds, oranges, and yellows. Dunkin’ Donuts brings back pumpkin spice coffee and apple cider. With all of these changes comes the worst change of all: the weather. Sunny and 75 degrees changes to windy and 45 degrees (but feels like 35). Figuring out what to wear is almost as difficult as Organic Chemistry.

You start the morning by waking up for your 9 a.m. class. You are greeted as you walk out the door with a wall of forceful, frigid wind. You battle your way to class. By the time you reach your destination, your hair is a tangled mess.

An hour later, you walk out of class to a beautiful sunny fall day. The wind that assaulted you earlier has disappeared and the sweater you put on when you left your room is now too hot and bulky, so you have to trudge back and change.

After your last class is over at 4 p.m., you walk outside to a torrential downpour. The weather didn’t even call for rain but alas, this is New England and the weather does whatever it wants. The second you reach your dorm, now drenched and freezing, the rain immediately stops and rays of sunshine shoot through the clouds and a beautiful rainbow appears.

At 7 p.m., you start to head to dinner. You walk outside and somehow it is snowing. It was 60 degrees earlier in the day but that does not matter to New England weather. Mother Nature decided to ruin everyone’s lives a month early with this unseasonable precipitation.

Throughout this single day, you have changed your outfit three times. No matter how hard you try, you'll never figure out a pattern to fall weather. Just allot yourself enough time to change outfits in between classes.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
