The Struggles Of Cleaning Your Room

Nothing is worse than a messy room, but nothing makes you feel better than a freshly cleaned room.

The Struggles Of Cleaning Your Room

“My room is a mess!” I catch myself saying this too many times throughout my time here at school. I know I need to clean my room, but can’t find the motivation to do so. Netflix on the other hand is a completely different story, I always have the motivation to do that, because it's fun. Cleaning my dorm room is NOT fun. When I do finally decide to clean my room it happens to be very short lived because no matter what it is a pigsty just a few short days later.

When people come to my room I always have to try to be calm and sly at the same time and open my door just enough to have my head peak out, but not enough for others to witness what is going on on the inside. Cleaning is just not fun, in fact it’s a struggle! Especially living in the dorms or a small apartment with no space.

1. Dishes

Dishes, where do I start? If you wait forever to do your dishes they just pile up and get gross and annoying; I won't even describe how disgusting they can end up being. Then you question why you even wanted real dishes in the first place. When you get to this point you totally throw out what makes sense for the environment. Plastic and paper soon become your best friend.

2. Laundry

It’s the same thing with laundry as it was with dishes. You wait too long and you’re out of things to wear except granny panties and T-shirts with holes in the armpits because for some reason that’s always where the seams come undone first. Then if you’re the kind that separates your loads that will take some time, plus washing and drying themselves take forever. Worrying about if everything was out of the pockets, lip balm is the worst to miss. Hope you don’t shrink anything and then having to go back to hang and fold all your clothes. The only good thing about doing the laundry is taking your clothes out of the dryer, they’re so warm and cuddly. However that's not enough to make me start doing them more often.

3. Sweeping

If you are a girl with long hair you need to sweep that floor at least once a week. If you have rugs on the floor that means you have to pick up those dirty things and shake them out before you bring them back in. Don’t forget to sweep over where they are usually put down because somehow stuff gets through. Plus sweeping any other place you step or see, even under the bed!

4. Making the bed

No matter if it’s lofted high, raised half way, or close to the ground, making the bed is always such a hassle. Whether you’ve just cleaned the sheets and you are starting from scratch or if you are just straightening the bed up after you get up. Point is, making the bed is annoying.

5. Clutter

“You have too much stuff! What are you going to do with all this junk? Do you even use all of this?” I know I have too much stuff, I have no idea where I am going to put it, and no I don’t, but I’m going to save it for a rainy day! Maybe I'll find a junk drawer or junk closet that I can stuff everything in.

6. Food

When we come down to school our parents help us stock up on food for our rooms. The question is, where do we put it all? No matter how much we think we eat, our stock piles never seem to get smaller. Mostly because we just keep adding to it as we go along, but it's alright. That's what we're supposed to in college right, eat a lot?

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
