The Start Of The Semester - As Told By That 70's Show

We all know that syllabus week is the struggle. Maybe our friends from Eric Foreman's basement can put a smile on our faces!

When you're getting ready for the first day of school the night before.

Trying not to not let twitter tempt you until 3 in the morning because you know tomorrow you have to get your act together.

So you get to school and the school spirit is already in full effect! "Join our clubs" "Buy tickets to the big game!"

It's like 8 in the morning and you love school spirit, but you're over it.

You're trying to find a familiar face, but you don't know anyone.

The teacher walks into the room, all ready to go and you wonder how any person can be this happy on the first day of school...

"So how did everyone spend their summer/winter break?"

Then the teacher says everyone has to share an interesting fact about yourself but you're not very interesting...

So you're trying to think of something funny and witty to say, but nothing really seems to fit or sounds cool enough...

And some things, while they may be true...probably aren't very appropriate...

"So who would like to share first?"

...so you panic and make up a fun fact that makes you sound extra weird and now no one will want to pick you to be in their group project.

After stating your fun fact, you have to tell the class why you registered to take this class. Everyone already knows it's a required class so you have to come up with a good reason that sounds better than everyone else...

Now that the terrible introductions are over, you finally get to talk about the syllabus. This is a weird emotion, you're ready to hear about what you're going to be doing this semester but also a very scared.

"The basic rules for this course...no cheating, be respectful...."

"Now on to the assignments for the semester!"

"We will have a midterm, a final, 6 quizzes, 2 presentations, 1 group project, 4 papers, and a research project..."

The teacher suggests starting all of the assignments as soon as possible so you don't get stuck trying to throw something together to day before!

And this is the best idea you've ever heard...like why didn't you think of this yourself?

But then your brain is like "we say this every semester and you know you're going to wait until the last possible second."

"I also offer a lot of extra credit opportunities."

"The syllabus is very straight forward and easy to understand. I have my office hours listed should you have any questions."

Your class is 75 minutes long and you have covered the syllabus and stupid introductions in 45 minutes. You're really hoping to get out of class early. It's the first day and you're already exhausted.

This process usually goes on for a few day in every class. You've run out of fun facts, you're tired. you're hungry, you have too many things written in your planner and you just want the week to be over...

Then you make it to the weekend!!!

"So how was your first week of school?"

Although we all can get overwhelmed by start of the new semester, we know that we'll get through it and it'll all turn out just fine! Make a schedule, start a study group, and don't forget that you can always count on your friends and family when you get stressed!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
