So I recently made the move from College of Charleston to the University of South Carolina. Some pretty major things happened and it was a pretty big transition. When I got here I decided to rewatch Harry Potter for the sixth billionth time. I am now inspired to share my experience with you through Harry Potter gifs.

Deciding to come here was hard. I was leaving my friends and the life that I had built there. I was part of Phi Mu and a writer for the Odyssey. I was about to start volunteering at MUSC hospital. It looked like things were great on paper, but I wanted more. I knew I needed a change. So I made the choice, found a place, and found someone to take my lease in two weeks. I guess no one really thought I was gonna go through with it. I made the announcement and my mom was like:

After making the decision, I realized that moving meant starting completely over. I got to choose who I was gonna be at USC. Whether I was gonna be happy and eat healthy or a hermit who goes through multiple bags of chips each week.

Right now I'm a little bit of a mix between the two. Probably leaning towards the hermit side since I just went to the store to restock on chips. Anyway, I get to the orientation for transfer students and it's FOUR DAYS BEFORE CLASSES START. As you can imagine there were hardly any good classes left and only one open for my major. So I'm adding all these classes I don't really need picking all these buildings not knowing where they are. Y'all I didn't know how big USC really was.

So I was feeling some type of way. My classes weren't what I needed and they were spread out between multiple buildings. I have never even toured the campus!!! So lucky I moved into this house with some pretty cool roommates.

One of them asked me if I wanted help finding my classes. Umm... yes, please. So we drive to campus and then walking around finding the buildings. Well, we got lost on the way to two of them. So for the first day, I knew what my buildings looked like, but that's about it.

Fortunately, it only took me two days to get a good grip on where my classes were. Through this whole thing, I was missing my friends and trying to switch over to the organizations here. It was tough and I feel for all the college kids that picked up their lives and had to start over socially while going to classes every day.

I've really only been here for a few weeks. It's still a little too early to know how good of a choice it was to move. Fingers crossed that it was for the best. So far the people have been great! At least the people I was able to meet in the breaks of my Harry Potter marathon.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
