The Stages Of Asking Your Professor For Extra Credit

It has come to the point in the semester where you no longer need sleep to function, and the dining hall is beginning to taste like a five-star restaurant. There are only a few weeks left of class, and you have managed to spend countless of hours in the library, befriended the Starbucks baristas and complained about school to anyone who would listen. Now, your hard work (and by that I meant the coffee infused all-nighters and late night Wawa runs) is put to the test.

At this point, you have either successfully convinced yourself that everything is fine because your grades do not determine your future, or completely avoid Canvas like it is a plague. Unfortunately, you have also ignored every extra credit assignment and now have to make the ultimate decision — is it too late ask for another extra credit assignment?

Stage 1: Denial

*Looks at self in the mirror*

Why do you do this to yourself Every. Single. Semester?

Maybe there is still time to improve my grade. I mean, really, how bad could it be?

*Logs onto Canvas*

Oh no. No…NO.

According to Canvas, I am going to need at least an A- on every assignment left to just pass this class?!

What if the University sent a letter home saying I am in danger of failing?

*Pulls out planner*

Note to self: schedule in daily mental breakdowns from now until the end of the semester.

Stage 2: Desperation

My professor seems like a great person who really cares about their students. I am sure they are already expecting students to ask for an extra credit assignment and would be happy to help.

Dear Professor,

I really enjoyed class last week, when we talked about your childhood and other useless information that I did not need to know about. It was great to speak with a professor who is so ambitious, honorable and will hopefully help a girl out.

Anyways, I am wondering if you have any more extra credit assignments that I could complete. I am aware that you have given our class multiple extra credit opportunities, but I did not come to terms with my borderline failing grade until now. Please help me.

Sorry to bother you and I hope you have a great day.

Thank you,

A Desperate Student

Stage 3: Determination

I will start another paper while I wait for a reply.

*Opens up Snapchat*

Why did Mike just open my Snapchat, but not text me back? Ugh, I am ~sooo~ done with him.

*Scrolling though Instagram*

Pretty.

Cute dress.

#RelationshipGoals *gag*

UM EXCUSE ME WHILE I DROOL OVER THIS GRILLED CHEESE VIDEO

*Thinks about starting a diet, but realizes I have zero self-control*

*Opens up Twitter*

Oh look, a new season of "Orange Is the New Black" came out last night!

OK, I am only going to watch one episode and then I swear I will start this paper.

Stage 4: Acceptance

*Six hours later*

Oh look, a response about that extra credit!

Student,

Sure.

THERE'S STILL HOPE!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
