If you're like me, music fills up a great deal of your free time. Ohio State is a rather big campus that involves a few hours of walking every day, but I don't mind when I have headphones with me. Many of the songs I walk to remind me of a moment in time, a friend, or how I was feeling when I first heard the song.

Music unlocks so many emotions and experiences that you might have never remembered otherwise. Knowing how much meaning some songs have in my life, I decided to ask around and learn others' favorite songs - and the meanings behind them.

"In Time," The Heavy

"I take this to be about fluctuating hope and hopelessness following a bad argument with a loved one. I adore the song, but it does unfortunately reflect my relationship with my Mom several years ago. We had a few very rough years and it didn't seem like we would get over the difficult patch. We knew eventually we could evolve and forgive, but it was a dark and sad place to be with someone you love. I'm happy to say we are now much closer, but accepting this past era certainly has not been easy. So in short the song is about not being ready to forgive, but accepting that there will be a brighter future." -Jack Crowley, OSU '18

"You & The 6," Drake

"I feel this song is relatable because it is a song written by Drake to his mother about how she raised him right. My mother is honestly my biggest inspiration, and the thought of making her proud is truly what keeps me going when life gets tough." -Michael Morgan, OSU '18

"In My Home," Young The Giant

"There's this one part of the song that I really resonate with: 'We are not lost / We're just searching /We are always, always searching for Home.' This lyric applies to me because I feel like we as individuals are always looking for a place we feel we belong. Especially in college when we're away from home, we experience new life styles, we're exposed to being responsible for our decisions, and we meet new people. Throughout this entire time we're searching for a certain feeling of being at home, where we feel most comfortable and where we can thrive. And it's during that time when we're challenged to make that feeling come true." -Julia Aminov, OSU '16

"Growing Up," Macklemore & Ryan Lewis

"I came to OSU for a Macklemore concert while I was still in high school and it was one of the greatest nights of my life. This song makes me think of that time, but also reminds me to appreciate everything life gives me, and to really be present in every moment." -Laura Jurewicz, OSU '18

"Life Is Hard," Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes

"This is my favorite song to listen to because you can play it when you’re happy, sad, or anything in between. If I could describe it in one word, I’d call it uplifting. The lyrics acknowledge that yes, things do get hard sometimes but life wouldn’t be the same without both the good and bad. The song itself is extremely upbeat and always makes me want to dance and just be happy. Definitely something I’d recommend to everyone!" -Alexis Lynch, OSU '18

"The Nights," Avicii

"This song is a reminder to me to live in the moment and enjoy every breath for what it is. We work so hard and forget to enjoy the amazing world around us; that whatever is happening, take the good and move on." -Paras Shah, OSU '18

"The Next Storm," Frank Turner

"Whenever I’m feeling down, I listen to this. It’s a bright and bouncy song about taking risks and living your life even though things are never going to just be smooth sailing. It can be so easy to get discouraged when things go wrong, but you can’t just hide inside waiting for the next storm." -Bennett Coltman, OSU '16

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
