Well, we did it! We made it past the dreaded freshman year. The year you become the youngest fish in the pond, and the year you have to prove to yourself that you can "college" all on your own. This is a new year; another chance to work towards your future goals. You've already done everything you're suppose to experience in college your freshman year, so now what? You've reached a point where you're too burnt out of going out and staying up all night, and studying all day has made you actually consider the idea of dropping out of school. Welcome to the "sophomore slumps", my friend.
In your freshman year of college, if you're lucky, it was probably one of the best years of your life. Your grades were above par, you're on track to graduate, and you're right on point with your degree plan. You must be so proud of yourself! You probably treated yourself to a "T-shirt Tuesday" or "Wednesday Night Karaoke" to celebrate how "adult" you are. You gained wild, reckless memories and met some of the greatest people you've ever known. You're so disappointed when spring semester ends and you have to go home, but you're ecstatic to be able to go back to your wonderland in just a few months. Summer flies by and you're now a sophomore in college. That's right, you did it. But doesn't it feel a little off?
After a few weeks, once you've gotten back into the swing of things, you realize that this year isn't quite as great as the year before. Something just feels different. You've been to the bar once or twice but it just feels weird. The same place you loved to be at has turned into a place that is just too crowded for you to enjoy yourself. The cute boys that once flattered you have turned into sweaty creeps that won't leave you alone. What is this place? You can't stop thinking about the place you feel most at peace at: your bed. So maybe, the bar just isn't for you anymore!
That's okay, it's not always for everyone. You come to realize that your school is your first priority anyways. Classes became harder this year, as they are more focused on your major, and it's significantly harder to keep up. You study day and night, night and day. You've basically bought out all the flashcards in your town, and your blood is 50% coffee. You're doing the most to keep up your grades, but it's just not doing it. What happened? The sophomore slumps!
The sophomore slumps is inevitable. You had the most fun as a freshman and lived it up for a year with your new best friends. You made yourself, and made your parents; so proud with your amazing grades and your involvement on campus. Maybe your sophomore year isn't as great as your freshman year, and that's okay! Power through it, my friends, our glory years are just ahead of us.
