The Word "Slut" Is Weaponized And That Needs To End

We created this word to use as a weapon against an entire gender.

Woman are constantly objectified to fit into a societal mold, sexually - a mold that says, be sexy but not provocative. If this woman takes control of her life and makes her own decision, she is immediately viewed as a woman society can not control, a rebel. Once this woman becomes comfortable in her life, her self, and her sex life, contrary to popular belief, this woman becomes a woman who lacks respect and wayward. If she leads a comfortable life exposing her sexual desires, sexual actions, and sexual comforts she is a:

SLUT: (n) disparaging + offensive - a lewd, dissolute, or promiscuous woman

Or the commonly used synonymous slang term lacking a definition by Merriam-Webster, but well defined on Urban Dictionary, a:

HOE: A promiscuous person.

In laymans terms, someone who has multiple, casual, and indiscriminate partners, can be described using these terms.

As women and men alike prance the streets of downtown Los Angeles at Amber Roses SlutWalk 2017, inspiration on a spiritual level sparks when a sign that reads "Sex is not vulgar, slut-shaming is" is advertised.

Society, GET OVER YOURSELF!

Slut is social construct created by society to belittle women for being sexual. A woman's sexuality is linked to her self-worth, tied to her "purity," and bound to her sense of self-disclosure. In addition to that, society is demeaning women by the way they are clothed. We insult women by insinuating that a woman is promiscuous by her physical appearance. Visually, the illusion that Ayesha Curry is less promiscuous than Amber Rose because of the manner of their appearances. The overuse of these words and the degradation of a woman simply because of her sexual endeavors and sexual encounters has to stop. Especially since men are glorified for their body count.

The sexual exploits of men vs the sexual exploits of women, you hear it time and time again. "Double standard" this, "double standard" that. Likewise, women are over it just as much as men are. Ask yourself:

Why are "ladies man" receiving praise for experiencing numerous sexual partners while women are denied similar praise?

Why is her promiscuity shamed rather than praised?

Why is their a difference in a woman verbally exploiting herself?

How are double-standards of promiscuity progressive?

We are, suppose to be, progressive and proud of our generations ideals. We fight for one another rights, encourage creativity, and promote acceptance, yet continue reprimanding women for choosing what they want to do with their OWN bodies.

Society, instead of expressing disdain for promiscuous women and praising promiscuous men, let's equally condemn it. We shape the view of our women - we define their roles, their images, and the respect of this gender. It is time we deprive this sexist culture of its verbal weapons: "slut-shaming," "sex-shaming," "slut," "hoe." What ever we have done to impose in the lives of others that should be able to live their lives confidently and happily, needs to STOP.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
