The Sky Is Green

The rant of a girl who's fed up with all the hate.

The Sky Is Green
Kamy Lanham

The sky is green. It is a beautiful blueish-yellow shade. It makes me happy when I see it and this is my truth.

Now, we all know that the sky is in fact not green and I am probably a crazy person for saying that, right? But that's not the argument I am trying to make here. You see, we live in a day in age where everything we say or do is potentially offensive or wrong. People have become these entitled, immature brats who throw a fit when things don’t go their way or there are other people that think differently than them. And that is never okay.

These past few weeks with the election and the protests, it has really opened my eyes to how obsessively aggressive social media has caused people to be. Trolling has become the new cool thing to do and berating people for their beliefs has become the new norm. This is not okay. America has always been a country that has strived to be a place of acceptance of difference and unity of diversity. Where did that America go? When did we all become these closed off, repressive individuals with nothing better to do than tell people how wrong their opinions are?

There’s people literally starting riots because the election didn’t go the way that they wanted to. They are sending death threats to people who oppose them. They are causing public disturbances and putting people in danger. And for what? So their voice is heard? So people accept there opinions?

I am sorry, but I refuse to believe that this is the America I was raised in. I refuse to believe that people are incapable of respect of others and their oppositions. Wake up, y’all. This isn’t high school. This is the real world. Life doesn’t always turn out the way we planned and we don’t always get what we want.

But that is okay. Always remember that it is okay for us to learn that life isn’t always what you want it to be. It’s okay that there’s things we don’t get in this world. That’s what keeps us humble and keeps us driven to be the change we wish to see in the world instead of demanding change from behind a computer screen and doing nothing else.

This article was supposed to go on about how rioting doesn’t solve anything (which it doesn’t) and how angry I am about everything that has gone on. However, I really just want to share this; remember to always be humble and kind. Work hard for what you want. Don’t expect what you deserve to be given to you. Don’t wait for someone else to make the changes, be the change. Create the world you want to live in instead of complaining about the one you’re provided with.

So what I am saying is, instead of yelling at me and telling me I’m stupid for thinking the sky is green, show me how to see the beautiful shades of blue.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
