- Your Floor Mates From Freshman Year. These are the people that will be your on campus family. After freshman year, when you see them on campus, you can’t wait to run over and talk about your lives and catch up. Throughout your first year everyone joins frats, clubs, and goes separate ways, but everyone comes home to the same floor, and hangs out in the same lounge, and vents about their lives. The guys on the floor become like your over protective brothers and the girls become your go-to confidants and outfit deciders. This will be your family and you have different relationships with every single one of them, but you'll always know you share the crazy fun experiences of freshman year together.
2. Your Best Friend(s). This won’t be your first roommate (though it could be). This could be someone on your floor or someone you meet through mutual friends, but chances are you meet this person half way through your freshman year. Bad night? Crawl into their bed and eat Ben & Jerry’s and watch some "Grey’s." They’re always there for you and you’re always there for them, plus they’re going to be the ones to hold your hair back after a rough night. You will find other people that will become some of your best friends too, and you'll meet them all throughout college.
3. Your Roommate(s). These are going to be your ultimate go-to people. Mostly after your freshman year if you move off campus into an apartment or a house, when you get to pick your roommates. These people may not be your absolute best friends, but they’re always going to be the first people there for you. They’ll be the first ones to help you when you cry over a boy or just need someone to listen to you complain about how hectic your day was.
4. Your Best Friends From Home. In college you become long distance. But nonetheless they know everything about your school life and you know everything about theirs. Whether you text everyday, once a week, or once a month, these are your best friends for life. They’re seen you through high school and now you watch one another develop into adults in college. You know as soon as you get home on break you’ll be right back together like you’ve never skipped a beat.
5. Your “Going Out” Friends. These aren’t the people you’d stay in and watch a movie with, but the fun people you definitely want to go bar hopping with. Not a very emotional friendship but supportive in choosing what wedges you want to wear out. Regardless, you can always count on these friends for a good time.
6. The “Convenient” Friends. Not convenient for you, but convenient for them. These are the friends that come over when there’s an alternate incentive and they only text you when they need something. You think these people care about you but soon enough you’ll come to realize they’re very fair-weathered friends. This is something you’ll have to distinguish throughout your college experience. They don’t want the best for you, they want the best for them. So say goodbye to these people.
