The Six Stages Of Post-Season Grief

It's okay to not be over it.

The summer lull of television series has begun and so has the grieving process over my favorite series, "Game of Thrones." If you're anything like me, you counted down the days until each new episode and maybe even informed all of your social media followers about your excitement. Now that season six is over, the post-season shock is setting in. I'm here to tell you, you're not alone. You may be experiencing the following:

Some GIFs may contain spoilers.

1. The aftermath.

You've hyped yourself up for the season finale and now you're in utter shock. You're excited to talk about the last episode with all of your friends and family. Maybe you begin to theorize the next move of your favorite character. What if all those references meant something? I can't wait to hear what the critics have to say. You can't believe how amazing that episode was! I can't wait until... oh, it's over.

2. The realization.

It's finally setting in that you just watched the last episode of the season. Are you sure that was episode ten? Maybe I misread it... What are you going to do every Sunday now? Did Buzzfeed make reaction articles yet? I'll just read those.

How long until next season again?

Oh, 8 months... ha. Yeah, I'm fine. I promise...

3. The anger.

How could the directors just stop there? The setup is too good to not just make one more episode. You find yourself searching on forums for other fans' theories. Maybe someone knows something you don't. Either way, you deserve to know. How dare they end your show in the middle of the summer? Am I supposed to go outside and socialize?

4. The sadness.

You start following your favorite characters on Twitter and Instagram. Aw! Look at how cute the actors look together... Don't they know how they've ripped out our hearts? Retail therapy can't help this mess.

Maybe if I just pick up a new hobby or start going to the gym. I'll just take a nap.

Two minutes later:

Why can't I just time travel to the next season? Why?

5. The understanding.

I'll just mark the calendar for next April. Maybe I'll catch up on the American Horror Story episodes I never watched. I bet next season will be even better. Maybe the costumes will even be better! Is it Halloween yet? My friends and I can go as our favorite characters! Better start crafting now. I don't know how they can make the next season better than this.

6. The relapse.

I'll just re-watch every episode all over again and everything will be just fine. There's got to be someone I can rope into this season. Maybe there's director's commentary. I swear, I don't have a problem.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
