When I was kid I used to get really mad at my mom for not having another girl (as though she had control over that) because I always wanted a sister. As a sophomore in college, my dream of having a sister finally seems to have come true. (No thanks to Mom.)
I was a little nervous about rooming with a teammate who also happens to be my best friend on this campus because I was afraid it would change our relationship. Well, I was right. It has changed our relationship, but all for the better.
Here are 19 ways you know your roommate is the sister you have always wanted:
1. You don’t date a guy without her approval.
2. No one ever texts just one of you at a time to make plans, so as a result, you are in multiple group chats together.
3. You know every song on each other’s playlists.
4. You forget whose clothes are whose because you are constantly borrowing each other’s.
5. You know all the her pet peeves.
6. You don’t leave the room until she has approved of your outfit.
7. People have questioned whether or not you’re dating because you are rarely seen apart.
8. There is never competitiveness or jealousy, but you’re constantly pushing each other to be your best.
9. You can be brutally honest with each other without getting offended.
10. One of you is organized, responsible, focused and hardworking. The other is messy, constantly distracted and obnoxious, so there is a perfect balance of fun and productivity between the two of you.
11. When one gets insulted, you both get insulted.
12. You say the same things at the same time.
13. You know all of her favorite foods, and when she gets hungry because you eat every meal together.
14. It's not unusual when you both wear very similar outfits.
15. When you’re with a group of people you can communicate without speaking. Eye contact or a smirk usually indicates a mutual thought.
16. You know really weird random things, like which shower she prefers, her favorite flavor of Chobani yogurt or the bizarre background story as to why the sound of Bruno Mars’ voice makes her cringe.
17. You know each other’s class schedules.
18. Everyone who doesn’t know your roommate feels like they do because you talk about them so much.
19. Even if you've only been separated for a couple hours, there is a ton of stuff to catch up on, since you're used to knowing even the minute details of each other's lives.
