"The Room," staring Tommy Wiseu, is a film that is quite possibly the biggest meme of a film. The film is torn apart for its poor acting, poor writing, and poor film-making in general. The film was released in 2003, and has since drawn a huge cult following, with entire theaters selling out for midnight showings of the film.
The film follows Johnny, a successful banker in the San Francisco area, who is betrayed by pretty much everyone in his life. He is supposed to get married to his fiancé, Lisa, who ends up cheating on him with Johnny's best friend, Mark. That's pretty much it, as the rest of the story is a jumbled up mess, with characters coming in and out of the story, pointless scenes, and scenes which have no place in the movie. There are also many side plots which never get bought up again, such as Lisa's mother having breast cancer or Denny owing money to a drug dealer.
The movie has so many classic scenes, and they are classic because they are very meme-worthy. Such as the scene where Johnny comes to the roof exclaiming how he didn't hit Lisa, and for some reason Mark is up there as well. Mark then tells a story about how he knew a girl who's boyfriend beats her up, and Johnny then laughs. Like what? How is that funny? This is a real movie folks, you can't make this up.
There are many other scenes that are silly and weird. Tommy Wiseu seems to have a weird obsession with football and shots of San Francisco. Both take a great part in the film. Also, throughout the film if you look closely at some scenes, there are pictures of spoons in the background. Which is a very random thing to have pictures of, especially in frames that you would usually see portraits of people in.
"The Room" is a great film to watch with friends and make fun of. If you're expecting some kind of artistic masterpiece, you're not going to get it. Maybe go see it at a midnight showing. I haven't been, but I hear they are a fun time, but you can never hear what the actors in the movie are saying because everyone is reciting the lines and having a good time.
