Anything that you see on the news, on your Facebook news feed, or really, anywhere you look for your news, is usually distorted far from the truth. The media has control over everything that is given to the public. I am not saying that the media is one big group of liars, but they do hold some truths and only present the facts that they want us to see.
For example, Vice President candidate Mike Pence’s speech at the Republican National Convention. I did not stay up late enough to see Mike speak, however, after seeing how Good Morning America portrayed his speech, I had to see for myself. After watching the whole thing, I realized that the folks over at Good Morning America who put the news together completely cut it up. Mike had a few jokes in there to keep the crowd interested, I assume, and those are the only parts that the media gave us to portray him as a “joker” and to make us all think that he is not taking his position as the vice presidential candidate seriously.
More often than not, the medias opinion is the one that you are going to be getting when you watch their news portrayal. It is very clear to see that Good Morning America does not support Donald Trump and his team to be the next leaders of the country just by listening to the soundbites that they present to us.
It can be seen in everything that becomes televised news. From the presidential candidates, to the facts of a homicide in your home town, to sports. Anyone who follows sports closely enough will see that in the press conferences after games, the media will ask questions to purposefully get the person they are interviewing to say something offensive so they can blow it out of proportion. And even if they don’t say it, the media will twist their words to make it look like they did. One of my favorite things is watching sports with my dad and I will never forget the press conferences after a New England Patriots game and seeing Bill Belichick address the media. More often than not, his answer to their questions stays consistent to “We are on to our next opponent.” There is nothing I love more than seeing someone who is able to put the media in their place because yes, there is a proper time and place for them.
My dad told me once, “Somewhere in the middle usually lies the truth.” And because of this statement, I always question what I see in the media. I always do some extra digging and it is my advice to the rest of this country to do the same before blindly following the news reporters who want you to believe their often fake and petty stories.
