Ah, senior year is here, and so is the angst, procrastination, and apathy. That's right, senioritis is slowly approaching us. If you don't know, senioritis is a common feeling amongst many high school seniors in which they feel no motivation to complete any work, or do anything for that matter, for the sole reason that it's their last year in high school and they're over it. Trust me, it's real, talking from experience since I've already started my senior year. High school seniors already want to be done with school, having college applications to fill, and questioning why senior year is even worth showing up for. It's a strenuous year for us to complete every assignment, and frankly we just don't feel like it. The cure? GRADUATION.
Apathy
Apathy is one of the biggest signs of senioritis. You feel like high school is just dragging on and you just want to be free and go to college already. Assignments, especially homework, feel stupid and worthless to complete so you just start slacking. It's normal. You're burnt out from three years of hard work, including having to study for the SATs and ACTs and you just want to chill out in your last year. You genuinely stop caring.
Laziness/Procrastination
All you really want to do is be a couch potato your senior year. Why would you care to show up? Every time you're assigned an essay in your AP classes you think you'll be motivated to do it but then the night before the due date comes up and then your attitude goes from "I got this" to "I'll take the F" because you'd really rather be doing something else than sit there and write a six page essay about something you don't even care about. Your subconscious is telling you that you'd much rather watch tv or be on your phone than do an assignment.
Repeated Tardies/ Absences
Sunday nights are rough, but Monday mornings feel even worse because you have to go to school. It's 7 a.m., and you feel like a walking corpse, is it really worth coming to school? What could you possibly miss that could be so important, right? That mindset generally results in a "call in sick" day, or a "come to school during lunch" day. You feel like crying from misery every time your alarm clock goes off, so you make the high school senior decision to not even show up. Because honestly, why should you, will it be worth it or will it be another day of just wasting time till you graduate?
Don't fret, college is just around the corner. And don't let the excuse of having senioritis make you do poorly all year round, because believe it or not, colleges do see your grades from 12th grade, and may or may not revoke your acceptance to their school if your GPA is a 1.5.
