It's that time of year again. The fall season is among us, and it is the perfect opportunity to get your fix of everything pumpkin. Even as I type this now, I am currently eating pumpkin pie on my couch while looking up pumpkin baking recipes on Pinterest. Where did this fad even come from? How did this even come about? Why is it so addicting? So many questions and so little answers. Maybe the idea all stemmed from the fact that Cinderella rode in a magical pumpkin. Those Disney movies really plant seeds in your head, no pun intended.
Every year, when September rolls around, I like to stock up on my pumpkin things such as: Pumpkin pecan waffle scents for my room, pumpkin pie, pumpkin coffee creamer, pumpkin bread, pumpkin ice cream...the list could go on. This craze has gone out of control and people need to be stopped, including me. I think its become so addicting, especially in Florida, because we don't have actual fall weather and we are trying to compensate by pretending we are northerners. Being a former northerner, I miss the days of going to the pumpkin patches and picking out the perfect pumpkin, eating pumpkin cheesecake and just feeling that autumn air.
I went around and asked some friends what their thoughts are on the subject and this is what they had to say:
"Pumpkins are punishment for me not dressing up for Halloween every year."
"I love pumpkins. I love everything about it. I love the color and I love the scent. I just love it.
"Screw pumpkins, man. They suck. MAKE IT STOP."
Clearly people have mixed feelings on the matter. In this day and age, we follow trends because it's the "cool thing to do." I don't know how long this trend will last but I think it will be here for a while. For the non-pumpkin lovers of the world, I'm sorry you have to deal with this every year. Pumpkin is life.
