While I have been following this historic election season, I have noticed some major problems that lie within our major media outlets. More now than ever, news outlets such as CNN, MSNBC and even FOX news remain very bias in their reporting of news. The main goal of journalism is to remain as un-bias as possible.
This remains a major issue within our media system. With this type of analysis being so heavily bias towards one political party, it creates an unpleasant sense of news being delivered to the consumer. In my opinion, the news is best reported when the ones reporting it tend to stay very close to a neutral standpoint. Of course the ones on the news have a right to their own opinion, but while reporting, they must put their personal opinions on hold and deliver a neutral sense of any story that is being reported on.
Instead, major news companies are controlled by higher ups who determine just what is reported and in which sense it is reported. However, this detracts greatly from pure journalism that major news outlets claim to represent. The worst part about this is that to me, it seems as if today it just keeps getting worse instead of progressing towards a better sense of journalism in America. Regardless of if you are a conservative or a liberal, it is nice to be told the news from a neutral sense. If this was the reality that we live in it would have a much more positive effect on our society.
News is meant to be news, not bent or altered in any way to praise one side while trying to put the opposite side down. Another major issue in the modern day media is how it all deconstructs down to whoever the puppet master is. Whoever owns the media plays the role of puppet master being able to control what is distributed to the American people. This creates the opportunity for the owner to decide whether something is reported or not. Most importantly, if it is reported with a bias tone. The modern day media we have in this country is flawed in many ways. It will be very interesting to see if one day we have a different style of media emerge; one station that stays neutral all the time no matter what. However I feel like the cure to our modern day journalism problem can be fixed from an outside news outlet who does not give in and simply say what they are told to say.
