The Problem With Social Media
uproar

Before you automatically reject this article in its entirety because of the title, please give it a shot. I am a firm believer in social media. I personally have many social sites and probably spend way too much time on them. There are so many positive things to be said about social media and I could talk about those for days, but I want to focus on the issues that arise in social media and what we can do to fix these problems.

1. Social media is the #1 cause of bullying.

It is so easy in the age we live in to bully someone through a text message, a snapchat, or a Facebook post, and never have to look them in the face. Cyber bullying is a real problem and affects many people that we may not even realize. The movie Cyberbully is an eye-opener to this problem and the affects it can have on someone. If you haven't seen it, I encourage you to take a little time out of your busy day to watch it. Most of the time we don't realize that what we are saying and putting out there for everyone to see can be very hurtful and affect people in ways you couldn't imagine. Use this philosophy: If you wouldn't repeat it to your parents, don't post it! Also, always stay aware and open to other peoples feelings because they are real too.

2. Social Media has become revolved around likes.

I feel like we live in a continuous war about who can get the most likes on a post. We limit the content we post to get approval from our friends and followers. Everyone knows at least someone who posts at a certain type of day where people will be most likely to like the picture or status you post. We should not have to rely on this reason to post what we want to post. If you like it, that is all that should matter! Don't limit yourself to what other people think. Post your heart out and like it yourself!☺️

3.People would rather play on their social sites than communicate in person.

I personally have a bad habit of doing this without thinking. We consume ourselves so much with how many likes we got on a picture or what our best friend put on twitter, that we often forget to have genuine conversations with the people around us. We would rather send a text message instead of just stopping by to say "Hello" and have a face to face conversation. Please remember to make time for the people around you as well as the people on your timeline.

As I mentioned at the beginning of this article, please don't think I am bashing social media. Just be aware of these three things next time you log on your computer or smart phones!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
