Divorce
in the world of celebrities has been rampant this summer. It has been sad to
see couples such as Ben Affleck and Jen Garner, Miranda Lambert and Blake
Shelton, and Patrick Dempsey and Jillian Fink separate from each other. However,
nothing comes close to this recent split of a widely loved and renowned couple:
Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy. Despite a solid forty-year marriage, the two
Muppets finally decided that it would be better for them to split up. When news
of the break-up hit the media, people were shocked and devastated. Generations
have grown up with the famous pig and frog duo. The pair have been an icon in
the entertainment industry for years, and were considered one of the top
couples in Hollywood. After working together on a plethora of films over the
years, the couple has decided to continue a professional working relationship,
but nothing more.
On August 4, Miss Piggy made her one and only comment. She wrote on her social media pages,
“After careful thought, thoughtful consideration and considerable squabbling, Kermit the Frog and moi have made the difficult decision to terminate our romantic relationship. We will continue to work together on television (“The Muppets”/Tuesdays 8pm this fall on ABC) and in all media now known or hereafter devised, in perpetuity, throughout the universe. However, our personal lives are now distinct and separate, and we will be seeing other people, pigs, frogs, et al. This is our only comment on this private matter… unless we get the right offer. Thank you for your understanding.”
In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Kermit states that this information isn’t new to him. He and Piggy have been talking about this for a while before it was released to the world. He expressed that the two of them wanted different things, and have mutually agreed upon this decision. Kermit also shared news about a new pig in his life. His current girlfriend’s name is Denise, and she is one of the heads of marketing with ABC. ET asked Kermit what is it about pigs he finds so attractive. He replied with “It’s the curly tail. It’s so fascinating and interesting to frogs.” It seems as though he is dealing with the break-up quite well. Kermit has found a partner whereas Miss Piggy is trying to find herself, out in the entertainment industry without the lovable green frog.
Although Kermit and Miss Piggy have split, they have no trouble keeping their work professional. The pair have been working together for years and know not to let their personal lives get in the way of their careers. Soon they will be starring in a new series called The Muppets. The show will focus on the behind the scenes production of a late night talk show hosted by Miss Piggy. The show will also include guest stars such as Elizabeth Banks, Imagine Dragons, and more. The show airs September 22 on ABC. Be sure to check it out!
