"They're going to think I'm weird. What if I don't have anything to talk about? What if they don't like me? What will happen if I embarrass myself?"
If you've ever asked yourself similar questions, then you've been a victim of a mind trap. They keep our brain on lockdown. Mind traps can be difficult to get out of. However, the person who set the trap is you and you alone have the power to escape.
We question ourselves when we enter new situations or scenarios. When we feel a lot of uncertainty, our minds slowly begin to move behind bars. We create a world of bad thoughts and negative thinking. Negative thinking over things that haven't even occurred yet. We think that we can see the future. Where does this confidence of insight come from? It's much easier to back down and stick to ourselves! Going out of or way and escaping the trap of this negative thinking is hard sometimes.
For instance, a clot of college students have been to a party on campus. This event is filled with a jungle of thoughts, both positive and negative. We all know the positive thoughts, about how much fun it can be. However, we've all been that person at some point who kinda stuck to themselves. It's easy to. It's easier than going out of your way to talk to that attractive person you keep making eye contact with. What if you remain quiet, you might not get the chance to talk to that person? What if they wanted to talk to you? You're allowing the fear of the future that doesn't exist. You're letting all of these emotions hijack your brain. We can't let that happen!
Theres a major reason we can fight these traps! Say we do that the slight risk of going up to that person and fight our negative thinking. It could work or it might not work out. We have to remember that no matter what happens, when we take that jump it won't change who we are. Were not looked down upon for taking a risk. We accepted a challenge, faced fear and grew as a person. You're still you, whatever happens.
Stay courageous, fight that inner thought and enjoy the freedom of mind.
