The Playlist Powerful Enough To Get You Through Exams

Keeping with the trends of winter blues and the approachment of high stakes testing, I created a playlist that I will be playing for the next few weeks as I wait for spring to come and finals to be over. So, while you sit and drink your coffee and pray that snow won’t come again, here is a mix of songs across the board to empower you to stay motivated and capable. Go do something great!

* There are explicit versions of this song; my personal preference are the clean versions.

Anything by Hedley*

“Wear my heart on my fist take you by surprise fire

Uh uh, forget that

I can do anything”

Best Fake Smile by James Bay

“No, you don't have to wear your best fake smile

Don't have to stand there and burn inside, oh oh oh

If you don't like it”

Bound for Glory by Vertical Church Band

“The saving work is done

Death is not my ending

My God has overcome

I am bound for glory”

Do You Hear the People Sing? From Les Miserables

“When the beating of your heart

Echoes the beating of the drums

There is a life about to start

When tomorrow comes!”

Everybody Loves Me by One Republic

“Feels just like I don't try

Looks so good I might die

All I know is everybody loves me”

Go the Distance from Hercules

“And I won't look back, I can go the distance

And I'll stay on track, no I won't accept defeat

It's an uphill slope

But I won't lose hope, 'till I go the distance

And my journey is complete”

How Far We’ve Come by Matchbox Twenty

“Well I, believe, it all, is coming to an end

Oh well, I guess, we're gonna pretend,

Let's see how far we've come”

I Don’t Want to Be by Gavin DeGraw

“I'm tired of looking 'round rooms

Wondering what I've got to do

Or who I'm supposed to be

I don't want to be anything other than me”

It’s Time by Imagine Dragons

“So this is what you meant

When you said that you were spent

And now it's time to build from the bottom of the pit, right to the top

Don't hold back”

Keep Holding On by Avril Lavigne

“You're not alone

Together we stand

I'll be by your side

You know I'll take your hand”

Lost, Scared & Tired by Jared & The Mill

“Where the road goes on forever

Like those pictures that you see

When we're lost, scared and tired

When we run free”

My Shot from Hamilton*

“I prob’ly shouldn’t brag, but dag, I amaze and astonish

The problem is I got a lot of brains but no polish

I gotta holler just to be heard

With every word, I drop knowledge!”

New Soul by Yael Naïm & David Donatien

“See I'm a young soul in this very strange world

Hoping I could learn a bit 'bout what is true and fake

But why all this hate? Try to communicate

Finding trust and love is not always easy to make”

Shake It Out by Florence + The Machine

“So I like to keep my issues strong

But it's always darkest before the dawn”

Sit Still, Look Pretty by Daya

“Oh, I don't know what you've been told

But this gal right here's gonna rule the world

Yeah, that is where I'm gonna be because I wanna be

No, I don't wanna sit still, look pretty”

Something to Believe In by Parachute

“You wake up every morning looking for your answer

You're waiting for your sign”

Take the World By Storm by Lukas Graham

“I wanna tear down boundaries

I wanna greet my enemies

I wanna see what I haven't seen

'Cause I know there's more”

True Colors by Cyndi Lauper

“If this world makes you crazy

And you've taken all you can bear

You call me up

Because you know I'll be there”

Wait For It from Hamilton

“And we keep living anyway

We rise and we fall

And we break

And we make our mistakes”

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
