The excuse, "I need to find myself" is used to ease breakups, convince parents why you need to travel, why you want to live out of your small town and a whole mess of other scenarios. In my experience, there is no true way to find yourself. The spirit is constantly evolving and exploring, and there is no certain person that you are meant to be that you can go out searching for.
With each and every new challenge or situation that you come across, you discover your reactions and those reactions could change as you learn more about the world around you. The heart will find different passions and something that may not seem appealing one day could be all that you want the next.
Do not get disheartened when someone says, "you've changed" or anything along those lines. With each and every phase that your heart goes through and with each and every thing that makes your soul thrive, give it your all. Do not hold back when you come to the realization that this may be a phase. Allow your heart to discover what it must and to give its all in everything that it does, so if something really is a phase you can feel at ease knowing that you gave that particular moment in your life all that you had and that you did not hold back.
Certain things in life will shape you. The greatest gift given in life is trust, so be able to trust that whatever life throws at you that everything will be alright and there is no reason to be a certain someone or something. There is no reason to go out and find who you are supposed to be, because you already are who you are supposed to be at this exact moment. Life will find you in the ways that it is supposed to so you can learn more about the world that you are living in.
In this moment in your life you are perfect. You are exactly where you are supposed to be and you are doing exactly what you need to do. The mind has certain expectations on where we should be and what we should be doing, its hopes are beautiful and vast but unfortunately, uninformed. Where we are supposed to be in the future is far past our knowledge and understanding, if we knew that we were supposed to be at point "A" at time "X" we would be so distracted on getting there that we wouldn't take time on the present.
Focus on those who are in your life right now and how they are shaping you. Understand that you will not be the ultimate version of yourself until your final moment in this life. New people will be introduced along with new experiences that will change who you are, we never stop growing and evolving which is absolutely beautiful. I do not want to be the same person I am now 20 years down the line because my life will be totally different and the skills and experiences that I have right now will not do me any good, they must be built upon and strengthened.
So, stop searching for something that you will never find and start listening to and following your heart. Your heart knows the path that you are supposed to go on and understands your passions. Enjoy each and every moment in that moment, do not look behind you and do not look in front: be at peace with the present and enjoy!
