The Perfect February Playlist

Old is gold.

The Perfect February Playlist

In November, I wrote in an article about how the kind of music I listen to changes as the seasons change. Well, it is three months later and I think it's time for a new playlist. With February nearing its end, I find myself listening to music that is definitely more cheery and upbeat than back in November. Each day, spring semester is closer to warmer weather, so I like to think my music will get progressively happier.

1. "Someone New" by Hozier. You all probably know the popular song “Take Me to Church,” but that’s not all Hozier has to offer. I have been listening to all his songs, lately, and he is amazing.

2. "Hurricane" by Misterwives. Last time, I included their most well known song, “Reflections,” and this one is even better. Misterwives has become one of my favorite bands, lately; the lead singer is so good. Definitely give them a listen.

3. "And She Was" by Talking Heads. I always like to include an oldie in a playlist, and this one is perfect for an upbeat, feel good mix of songs.

4. "Miracles" by Coldplay. This is their song from the movie Unbroken (which pales in comparison to the book, just sayin’). It is kind of corny, but super catchy.

5. "Electric Love" by Borns. I had never heard of Borns before, but this song is so fun. He kind of sounds like MGMT, so if you are into them definitely give Borns a listen.

6. "Flashed Junk Mind" by Milky Chance. Milky Chance fascinates me. They are a German folk duo with reggae and electronic music influence. This one is a little more chill, but they have a really different sound, which I like.

7. "Planes" by Jeremiah ft. J. Cole. I also always like to include one hip-hop/rap song in playlists, because they are a people pleaser. I really like this song, though. The only song I previously knew by Jeremiah was “Birthday Sex” so I would say this one pleasantly surprised me.

8. "New Romantics" by Taylor Swift. Just because I have to include a T-Swift song in every playlist. And because 1989 is everything.

9. "Turnin" by Young Rising Sons. This one is very feel-good -- the kind of song you want to listen to while on a road trip.

10. "Cecilia and the Satellite" by Andrew McMahon. McMahon is the lead singer of Jack’s Mannequin and Something Corporate, so I had to include this to please my seventh grade self.

11. "Love Me Like You Do" by Ellie Goulding. This song is from the movie 50 Shades of Grey. I was unsure if I liked Ellie Goulding before, but this is my favorite song of hers that I have heard.

12. "Elastic Heart" by Sia. First of all, Sia is so talented. Second of all, Shia LaBeouf is in the music video.

Sorry if you do not like my music taste, but I like to think this is a pretty good mix of songs, so enjoy!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
