Finals are over. You're home. But, the strange thing about college summer vacation is that you actually have nothing to do. Back in high school, you always had summer reading or assignments in the back of your head, but this summer, you're free. Yes, you may have an internship or a job or something else going on, but there's no homework or classes. A break like this is necessary.
Yet, the nothingness of summer is the weirdest sensation. Since you have the chance to sleep, you do. Since junk food is no longer a dining hall away, you treat yourself. Now, you're constantly scrolling through Facebook or trying to find a show to watch. The silence of summer and the decrease in the hustle and bustle of school is comforting, as you finally have the opportunity to relax.
Say goodbye to 8 a.m. classes and midnight deadlines. Forget the days spent studying for exams and struggling over homework. Bid farewell to most of your responsibilities, and say hello to sunny, boring days and a few months of relaxation before you're thrown back into the college life once again. Spend time with your family and old friends, but also sleep and appreciate having absolutely nothing to do.
As comedian John Mulaney once said, "Percentage wise, it is 100% easier not to do things than to do them, and so much fun not to do them—especially when you were supposed to do them." So, do nothing, and enjoy the bliss of summer.
