What I Hope The Perfectionists Will Take From PLL

Since I was about twelve I have been obsessed with Pretty Little Liars. Not only did I tune in for every single episode of the show, but I also read all sixteen of the novels and the companion novels. It’s safe to say that I’m a big fan. When the show ended last year I was devastated, so I was beyond excited when I heard that Freeform decided to make a spinoff of the show based on Sara Shepard’s The Perfectionists series. Since the show is being developed by Marlene King, the same producer of PLL, I am hoping that the following aspects carry over from Rosewood to Beacon Heights.

1. “Got a secret. Can you keep it?”

Pretty Little Liars really nailed it with their theme song and intro. Ashley Benson, who played Hannah Marin, actually chose the song “Secret” by the Pierces because she thought that it was perfect for the show. She was right, that song got me in the perfect mindset to deal whatever A had in store for the girls that week. Aria’s “shh” at the end of the intro also became a very iconic symbol for the show. I would love to see a very similar intro for the spinoff, but maybe with Nolan in the coffin instead.

2. Looks that kill.

The fact that the liars all had impeccable style was one secret they couldn’t keep. The girls all had very different styles from one another, so every viewer could find a liar with a style that they could identify with. I have seen countless Pinterest boards dedicated to PLL fashion for outfit inspiration. Based off of The Perfectionists books I have high hopes that this new show will have characters that continue to serve looks.

3. “Ship”-worthy Couples

Gossip Girl, Serena and Dan. Really?) All of the PLL couples had ups and downs that made their relationships more real. This also made it that much more satisfying when they finally made it to happily ever after. I can’t wait to see who I’ll be shipping in the spinoff.

4. Similarity to the Books

Pretty Little Liars the show was different than the books in many ways, writers stayed true to the overall themes of the novels. Let us not forget when Freeform adapted Shepard’s The Lying Game series into a show that was laughably different than the books. The show was canceled after two seasons. However, Pretty Little Liars lasted for seven years. Hopefully, Freeform will not make the same mistake twice.

5. Villains We Love to Hate

Pretty Little Liars can be channeled into Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists. I can’t wait to see what they do differently with this show, but I hope to see some of the things from PLL that I loved. One thing that the spinoff is for sure taking from the original is some of the cast! It was recently confirmed that Sasha Pieterse who played Alison Dilaurentis and Janel Parirsh who played Mona Vanderwaal will be returning as their characters for the new show.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
