The Nashville Knack: Future Thieves

Future Thieves are a band composed of many talents from the strong voice of their lead singer, Elliot Collett, the coolest lead guitarist, Austin McCool, a progressive sound from their bass player, Nick Goss, and a drummer that can play any beat, Gianni Gibson. Together, the band of four forms a rock group that can captivate the attention of any crowd.

When did the band form? Future Thieves formed in October of 2013 with an instant connection between the band members once in Nashville. Elliot moved to Nashville with his old band from Kentucky, Nick and Austin moved from Indiana, and Gianni is well traveled coming to Nashville from Los Angeles, London, and New York.

From the start, the band formed a foundation of varying sounds, thoughts, and ideas. Their various perceptions created a rock band unlike any other. Their first effort was from a three-song EP that gave their fans a small taste of what was to come. In 2015, Future Thieves produced their album titled Horizon Line.

Many sources praised Horizon Line, which lead to their growing fanbase, annual Christmas show in Nashville, and so much more. I was invited to the their second Christmas show at 12th and Porter, a Nashville bar and grill known for their live music and $1 beer specials.

I had the chance to interview the band before their show, and meeting each of the band members was a unique experience for me from their kindness, unforgettable story, to their song "Ghosts", which builds tempo and rhythm with the progression of this hit song.

Of course, that was just a small glimpse of what would be played in their show after their opening acts, SunGhosts and Guthrie Brown. When Future Thieves stepped on the stage in their Christmas attire and full of energy, I knew this show would be memorable.

Every inch of the room was filled with fans ready to hear their music. A cheer of joy and excitement came about when Elliot stepped up to the mic, and Austin played the first riff. There was so much more to their music than their sound, but the reason why they were on stage. So many people love Future Thieves for their personable nature off stage and electric presence on stage.

If their performance and crowd reaction was an indicator of the future growth that the band is going to have then many fortunes are ahead. It starts with their release of Live at Blue Rock on January 13th 2017, then their European tour, and many other things that await Future Thieves in 2017. If you want to be apart of their journey be sure to follow their music on iTunes, Facebook, and Spotify. Happy New Year!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
