Do you need a motivation boost? I know that in the middle of this snowy, exam-filled craziness I sure do.
I just want to roll myself into a fleecy burrito inside my lovely bed and snooze for 20 hours, but I know that is in no way a good idea. I’m a boss and a hustler with huge aspirations, so I can’t afford to be a fleece burrito every time that I’m a little tired or overwhelmed. You are also a boss and a hustler, so let’s get down to business.
Something that really helps give me energy in these sluggish moments is music. Ten minutes of random dancing around my room to early 2000s throwbacks has an almost magical effect. One song that always hits the spot for me is “Watch Me Shine” by Joanna Pacitti from “Legally Blonde."
The fact that this song is from "Legally Blonde," is already a big motivator. A big personal insecurity of mine is feeling like I need to prove my intelligence to people. Because of my nasal accent and overuse of the word "like," people automatically assume that I am stupid. This has been especially challenging for me coming from a half Indian family where a lot of typical Asian values about education and success were upheld.
In a family of lawyers, doctors, and engineers, I'm an advertising major who runs a blog and YouTube channel. As I grow up, I am learning that I have to prove myself to no one, but I still enjoy thriving and doing my best to achieve what I identify as a success. I'm a hustler, and so is Elle Woods (the protagonist of "Legally Blonde.") We are both underdogs who are destined for great things, despite being highly underestimated by the majority of people around us. I like to think of myself as an Elle Woods type of character, so listening to her musical/movie's soundtrack is a big motivator for me.
This song talks about working hard, challenging yourself, breaking the preconceived notions that people may have about you, and achieving success as measured by you. It's full of reminders as to why you have set your goals, as well as the fact that nothing worth having comes easily. This song gets me ready to hustle and be the most empowered and confident version of myself that I can be. I hope that it has the same effect on you.
This song isn't on Spotify, Apple Music, or iTunes, but I have a YouTube link for y'all. If you download the song into your iTunes or onto your device, you can import it to Spotify and put it onto your other playlists. This is what I did, and I highly recommend doing the same.
Ponytail high, coffee strong, playlist popping - ready for anything.
