Netflix hit original series "Orange is the New Black" premiered June 17, leaving fans shocked and wanting more. The drama-packed season left fans laughing, crying, and anticipating the return of the series, which is expected in June of 2017. Big changes and drama came to Litchfield this season in shocking moments you will surely never forget. Warning: if Twitter or your friends have not already spoiled season 4, this article contains spoilers. If you have not watched all of season 4 yet, you are missing out, and need to go watch all the drama unfold.
1. Lolly gets committed.
Season 4 featured a lot of Lolly. She started out with her funny one-liners and dissing Piper, but watching her struggle with her mental illness became a lot to watch. From her talks with Healy to her backstory and the time in her time machine, you could not help but love Lolly and root for her to overcome her illness. However, after the body of a CO is found, Lolly is taken to psych for the murder, and it is intense as she is hauled down the hall screaming for Mr. Healy.
2. Sophia in the shu.
The series picks up with Sophia where she was last seen--being thrown into the shu. Gloria gets word to her wife, who then harasses Caputo for information on Sophia. Fans watch Sophia struggle inside the shu--from flooding the room with the toilet to Nicky having to clean her bloody cell. Eventually, she is let out of the shu and returns to Litchfield, but seeing her so hurt is heart-wrenching.
3. Piper gets branded.
After the COs learn of panty supplies being stolen and a possible panty business going on inside the prison, Piper protects herself by planting her supplies in Maria's bunk. This causes Maria to get time added to her sentence, which has the Dominicans seeking revenge on her. To get revenge for getting Maria caught, they brand a Nazi sign into Piper's arm. Okay, so Piper may have had this coming for setting Maria up--and also being the most annoying character ever--but this scene was brutal and shocking.
4. The story of Suzanne 'Crazy Eyes.'
Earlier on in the series, we had brief flashbacks of Suzanne and her childhood, but we never found out what led her to prison. However, when the COs were gathering potential suspects for who killed the guard, Suzanne was picked, which led to the reveal of Suzanne's past. It was revealed that when Suzanne's sister left her for the weekend, she ran into a little boy she recognized from her greeting job at a Walmart-like store. Suzanne and the boy went back to her apartment and the little boy soon realized he was basically kidnapped and wanted to go home. Suzanne didn't realize this and the events led the boy onto the fire escape, where he fell. Suzanne's story was heartbreaking, and adds so much to her character.
5. The death of the CO/hitman.
All of season 3, Alex believed her former boss would send someone into the prison to kill her. In the finale, she was stuck in the greenhouse with a CO who turned out to be her boss's hitman, and he was going to kill her. In the premiere, Lolly comes in and saves Alex, and the two believe they have killed him. However, when Alex goes back to get rid of the body, she finds him alive and she has to finish him off. Later, his body is cut up and buried in the garden. The cutting up of the body and the eventual discovery of the body was a lot of drama for this season.
6. Poussey's death.
7. The cliffhanger.
The season ends with the Daya picking up the CO Humphrey's gun and pointing it at him as they are trying to release celebrity Judy King. The prisoners around her are fed up with the overcrowding, the extremely poor behavior from the guards (remember Humphrey forcing Maritza to swallow the mouse), and P's death. It was the final straw in the prison. The prisoners all shout for Daya to shoot the guards and the season ends there. Will she shoot? Won't she? Season 5 is highly anticipated. We will have to wait to see what will happen in Litchfield after this shocking season.
