The Most Important New Year's Resolution
New York Daily News

January 1, 2017. The beginning of a new year of happiness, hardship, and life. A year of firsts. A year of lasts. People entering the world and people leaving. This year so many wonderful things happened, and so many not-so-great things also happened. But that's life; ups and downs, good times and bad times.

Every family has different traditions and different celebrations. A lot of people create New Year's resolutions, and a lot of people don't. For me, my resolutions are always about making sure I can be my best self in the coming year. I believe that New Year's is a time to reflect on all of your accomplishments and grow from your mistakes. I make so many mistakes each day, and I know I can improve myself. But I also have had numerous successes in these days.

In this day and age, so many people are just looking out for themselves and not realizing the repercussions of their actions. I recently walked through airports and encountered so many different people traveling all across the world. Some say "Pardon me," and brush past, others nod and smile, and some just push through to get to their own personal destination. We all have our own personal destinations, but it isn't worth it to make someone else's day horrible just to make yourself feel better.

In 2017, I urge you to not focus on the bad things but to focus on the good. There is so much love in this world, you just have to keep being positive and strive to be the best person you can be. And I know that life is hard, believe me, I realize that. But there's always some good to look forward to. Be happy, be a good person.

For your New Year's resolution, just be aware that other people are in the world. Focus on growing into your best self, but not bringing down others in your pursuit of it. I know, I know, it seems like I'm a motivational speaker, but sometimes all of us need to hear these words and reflect.

In 2016, the world had ups and downs, but it still managed to complete that revolution around the sun yet again, and so did you. 2017 will be better, and a whole new year to experience the greatness life has to offer. Make the 365 days of 2017 the most fun-filled days, and focus on the happiness and joy surrounding you. New Year's Eve and New Year's Day are both filled with so joy and love, bask in those feelings. Spread love. Empower others. Be positive.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
