The Money Crunch

Value is the main topic for the state we’re in. Currently cutting parts of higher education is the answer to relieving the debt in Louisiana. With a proposed cut in education, the requirements of students do not mirror such. With ACT scores standing at a 21 to receive funding, the new requirement will rise to a 28. Higher learning is not the total cause of the financial deficit, granted there has been corrupted use of funds, as a whole. Due to the cuts legislators can lead one to question the priorities of their choices. Leisure activities; state specific holidays, fairs, and festivals, are usually last to suffer and loss. Over the years the abrupt curriculum changes, and financial cuts, demonstrate a lack of value for education. The consequences are by no means in correlation to who pays.

The effects of a lack of education, are dangerous. There will be a lack of entry point for students and colleges to compete on a state or national level. The effects will be seen in knowledge of healthcare professionals, lawyers, and other professions, coming out of universities in the future. It appears many political positions are being filled to maintain a duty of position. This is observed from more information about the consequences, and lack of details of a financial plan.

The flood crisis, sheds a light on local governments. The measure of preparedness and speed to act is key. In many local areas there are many bridges, levees, and roadways that have not been updated. The duties of council men and women should be known by citizens in detail. There should not be a duty to give people false hope, but put value in the town. Funds are to be used for the greater community. A political officer should use their position to bring the community together, emergency preparedness, and to cultivate the future. Education and the upkeep of levees, rivers, roads, and bridges will determine the future. Natural disasters and low quality of education cause citizens to move to different areas. It is up to citizens to use their voice to spark change. It’s the only way to bring about change. Exercising voting rights is the main way, starting a scholarship, and gathering groups to make your voice heard. Louisiana please wake up! There is value, much worth in your rights, voice, and education.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
