"Your 20s will be awkward. You'll be too old for this and to young for that. You're going to make mistakes. Lots of them. Embrace every moment."
As my friend graduated for college, he left me with one key piece of advice, "live in the moment." It seems simple enough, right?
Whether we like to face the reality of it or not, time flies. Not only us, but everyone around us is constantly changing. I thought senior year of high school went by quick until I finished my first year if college — I could've sworn it was still football season.
If I've learned anything so far in life it's that no matter how hard you try, you cannot control everything. You'll never enjoy something when you spend every second trying to control what is happening and the potential outcomes. So, sit back, relax, take a deep breath, let go, and just live out that moment.
"You have to fall hard in order to learn to pick yourself back up. You can plan and prepare as much as you want, but the best memories you'll have are always going to be the last minute plans or the nights where you just let yourself let loose and do something out of your comfort zone."
I realized I was always so caught up in something from the past or preparing myself for what would be coming in the future that I was missing out on now. I would replay mistakes in my head and beat myself over the past to the point of depressing myself. I was always trying to do more, be more, etc. I'm not saying don't ever make plans or set goals. I'm saying, give yourself a break. Take care of yourself. Allow yourself a little slack every now and then to have fun and loosen. Put the phone down sometimes; you'd be shocked at how great a moment can be when you're not trying to Instagram, Snapchat, and Tweet it. You might even get lost in conversation with someone. Take chances, and do what makes you happy.
Go on the random road trips at two in the morning to get food with your friends as ya'll blare the music to all of ya'll's favorite songs. Stop wondering if that boy you met last week is going to text you back. Buy the outfit that you’ve tried on for no reason and then fallen in love with, even if you can’t think of anywhere you’ll ever to wear it to. Trust yourself with how much you studied because stressing out won't help. Nothing is guaranteed, so enjoy every moment and cherish the memories. You never know what can change in your life in the blink of an eye.
I'd rather say "I can't believe I did this" rather than "I should've done this."
