I’m not a regular mom, I’m a cool mom.
The mom friend. Every group has one, though many consider it to be the worst position in the friend group. What makes being the mom so cringe-worthy? It might have something to do with the tireless hours of holding back hair, cleaning up vomit, and letting everyone trash your house because having a house-party is safer than finding a DD. It’s true, mom-life is not always glamorous or easy, but it’s worth it (I promise).
Urban Dictionary defines the mom friend as the one friend in your squad that's super responsible and almost over-protective of the rest of the group. Sure, the mom friend get defensive when anyone takes on an argumentative tone with one of her “children,” but it’s only because she cares. She’ll always stand up for you (in her own passive-aggressive way).
The mom friend is the one who seemingly has her shit together more than the rest of the group. She’s often tired after long nights of pep talks and relationship advice. She’s broke because she must always be stocked up on snacks for the group. She puts her friends first and trades drunken shenanigans for responsibility. She’ll even neglect her own obligations because she’ll be too busy reminding everyone else of theirs.
The mom friend is invaluable, always acting as the voice of reason and offering a shoulder to cry on. When all else fails, she’s there to offer guidance and support (and more snacks). She’ll drop everything for you and love you unconditionally…even after you do the one thing she told you not to. With her one-of-a-kind personality, she will do all the behind-the-scenes work just to make you an acceptable member of society, whether it’s polishing your resume or reminding you to wear deodorant.
Being the mom is tough, both physically and emotionally, but I can’t help it that I’m the right fit for the job. And I know my friends appreciate it, from the one I helped to graduate high school to the one I met because he cheated off me in Spanish class. To all my “kids” out there (you know who you are), please know that I am proud of all your achievements and thankful to be the mom friend.
(On a side note, shout out to all the dad friends out there as well!)
