To most millennials, the name Emily Post means nothing compared to Kylie Jenner or Gigi Hadid. Post though, was the original "it girl" in America. Today, she would be crushing Kylie and Gigi in the Insta game. Now that the gift exchanging is over, there is one thing left to do that many millennials forget about -- the thank-you note. This is where we turn to Emily Post. According to The Emily Post Institute, there is truly nothing more meaningful or special than receiving and sending a handwritten thank you note. In the current tech climate of e-mail, texting, and DM-ing, a handwritten note sent via the actual mail seems inefficient and archaic. However, a handwritten note will always show more attention to detail, concern, traditional etiquette better than any e-mail. Here are a few of my tips to make thank you notes fun, fresh, and meaningful.
The tools of the trade:
Start with great stationery and a wicked-good writing instrument. I, being a monogram maven, love my stationery to be personalized with my monogram. Today there are so many options for personalized stationery, from the traditional hand-engraved Crane products to the fun and modern Page products, there are hundreds of options in between. For pens, I think it is best to match the color to the occasion. For example, if you are thanking you bestie for a super cute new romper then go bold; try a bright gel pen, and for something more serious try a classic black pen.
What to say, what to say:
The key to a successful thank you note is personalization. Make sure you include a specific reference to the gift you received, and a specific reference to something about the gift. For example, if you received a pair of fabulous earrings say what detail of the earrings you like or a recent event you wore them to. Also address the person who gave you the gift. Thank them for coming to the party or for just being a friend.
These tips should help you write the best handwritten-note ever. Emily Post would be proud!
