It's the most wonderful time of the year: Christmas. From the music and movies to family gatherings and gifts, Christmas brings joy to us all in some way. From the time you are little you look forward to Christmas day. But the magic of the holiday season changes through time.
Christmas time is something all kids look forward too. With no school and all the gifts, what kid doesn't love all that! When you're little Christmas morning is one of the best days of the year. You can't sleep the night before because you're so excited to see what gifts you got from Santa. The magic is so real. You get lost in the new toys and the fun of it all. Family gatherings with all the sweets, it's a child's biggest dream but as you get a little older it changes.
The magic of it all slowly fades with age. You still look forward to the break from school, the good food and family gatherings but it's not as exciting as when you were little. There aren't toys you want or one big gift that you're excited for so it's just not the same as when you were a little kid.
When you go to college that's when it really changes. You're away from home for most of the year and then you come home and boom, it's Christmas already. The day seems to be just another day. It just doesn't feel like Christmas. Or seem like the holiday season is actually happening. I don't know if that's cause you're not home for the whole holiday season, or if as you age it just changes but I know that Christmas is still special because of loved ones, it's just not as magical.
But I feel like once you have kids again or kids in your life, the magic of Christmas comes back. You get to live the holiday through the little ones. You can see the excitement in their eyes and it can bring out the kid in you. Seeing the magic again in them can bring back memories and make Christmas feel right again.
Although the feelings may change over time, one thing doesn't. Christmas is still special to all. It is a time to be with family and enjoy the time with loved ones. I'm still in love with the holiday season because I celebrate with the ones I love and the traditions that I had as a kid still live on. Even thought it may not be as magical as it use to be I know that it will forever be my favorite time of the year because of the ones I spend it with.
