The Life Of The Not Rich And Not Famous

Ballin' on a budget

The Life Of The Not Rich And Not Famous

I have recently found myself eyeing items of expense. From things like clothes and shoes to accessories and sunglasses, the more expensive it was, the more I wanted it. As a college student, it is unrealistic to think like this because college students are constantly ballin' on a budget, so why do I find myself wanting such expensive things?

Growing up, I was never raised to believe that I needed the most fine things. We were never a "keeping up with the Jones's" kind of family. As I got older though, I found myself wanting to have the latest trends more and more. In middle school it was everything Abercrombie & Fitch. In high school it was Urban Outfitters and Free People. And now college is where I really find myself wanting finer things, but now I am not just eyeing the typical trends. I am going for more expensive designer things, and as previously stated, this is not something that is within my budget as a broke college student.

I feel that as I get older, I need to have more nice things in order to maintain a status in the world that I am trying to fit into. But being on a budget while being bombarded with constantly changing trends, it is impractical to believe that I can have what is best the second it comes out.

I believe that all of this comes from social media and following celebrities so closely. As someone who is an avid follower of celebrities and someone trying to make it in the entertainment industry, it is no wonder that I constantly find myself watching what celebrities do. I am always looking to them for the hottest trends, and their trends tend to be pretty expensive. It is sometimes hard to remember that we live completely different lifestyles. It is easy for a celebrity to go spend $500 on a pair of sunglasses while I find it difficult to spend even $10 on a meal when I could be eating in the dining hall. It is easy to want to maintain an elite status, just like celebrities, but that is not the reality.

I'd like to think that one day I will be able to live an elite lifestyle like the celebrities that I follow, but until that day comes, I will just continue to follow trends that are more in budget as someone trying to leave college with as little debt as possible.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
