The Life Of A Grad Student As Told By Winnie-The-Pooh

If there is one person (bear) who understands us, it’s definitely Winnie. AKA: A.A. Milne

Sometimes (okay, let’s be honest), most of the time, graduate school is pretty tough. With hundreds of pages of readings each week, 15-page papers, projects, presentations, and let’s not forget that wonderful thing called a Master’s thesis, it gets kind of overwhelming.

1. “You can’t stay in your corner of the forest waiting for others to come to you. You have to go to them sometimes.”

Graduate school is new territory for all of us. Don’t be afraid to get out there and show them what you’re made of.

2. “People say nothing is impossible, but I do nothing every day.”

via GIPHY

‘Nothing’ is always a pleasant task sitting right in the middle of every grad student’s to-do list.

3. “It is more fun to talk with someone who doesn’t use long, difficult words but rather short, easy words like ‘What about lunch?’”

via GIPHY

Sometimes the best things in life are simple and delicious – like lunch.

4. “When you see someone putting on his Big Boots, you can be pretty sure that an Adventure is going to happen.”

via GIPHY

We all have to put on our Big Boots sometimes. This terrible time is also known as finals week or (for some of us) the entire second year of our Master’s degree program.

5. “Think, think, think.”

via GIPHY

Maybe if we say it enough, it will actually happen.

6. “I did know once, only I’ve sort of forgotten.”

via GIPHY

Except, then this happens.

7. “Rivers know this: there is no hurry. We shall get there some day.”

via GIPHY

We rushed through our undergraduate years only to end up right back in a classroom. Savor these moments, because unless your goal is to become a professor, the real world is only a thesis paper away.

8. “Did you ever stop to think, and forget to start again?”

via GIPHY

We’ve all been there. It’s called Friday.

9. “You can’t help respecting anybody who can spell TUESDAY, even if he doesn’t spell it right; but spelling isn’t everything. There are days when spelling Tuesday simply doesn’t count.”

via GIPHY

Trying is what really matters in life.

10. “When you do the things that you can do, you will find a way.”

via GIPHY

Don’t forget who you are and what you like to do. If you’re passionate about what you do, your boss (or whoever your supervisor is i.e. a professor, etc.) will notice.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
