Dear Nana,
I just wanted to tell you how much I absolutely love you. Of all the people in this world, there has never been, nor will there ever be, someone that I admire more than you. You are the best mother, sister, grandmother and friend that any of us could have asked for. You are the light we all follow and the strength we all need. I am so fortunate to have had the privilege of being your granddaughter (and your first grandchild). You have taught me so many lessons and helped me get through some of the toughest times in my life.
Without you I don't know where I would be. Over the past 20 years, you have taught me more than anyone what it means to be grateful and loving. My family means the world to me because you made family my world. Every special moment we've had will hold a special place in my heart until I see you again. Thank you for being the role model I needed.
As I am writing this letter to you, I am reflecting on the life we've had together. It seems like just yesterday I was just your little baby and we were playing at the park together. Now it feels unreal to me that I am only five short minutes away from seeing your beautiful face one more time. If there is one memory I want to remember forever, it is the time you came to Virginia Tech with me. My orientation was already one of the most exciting days of my life, but the fact that I got to share my excitement with you meant the world to me. You knew how much I loved that school and because you loved me so much it just made one of the most unforgettable days of my life.
I'm starting to cry and I am trying really hard to be strong. You know me and you know I try to be the glue that holds us all together. I don't want you to worry about us. I promise you I will make sure everyone stays happy and healthy.
I'm sad you had to leave me, but I know you are feeling better now and that makes me so happy. I hope you hugged your mommy and daddy tight, I know how much you missed them. We all miss you more than words right now, but it was time for you to be with Poppy again. We hope that you will join us for the boys' graduation in May, for all of Maddie's awesome dance routines, for my 21st birthday, and every other important event in our lives. I know you are smiling at me right now because you were more proud of me than anyone in the world.
Your love will live in me and guide me every day of my life.
I love you so much,
Number 1
P.S., please give Poppy a big hug for me and tell him I love him so much.
