I just read an article on Buzzfed titled "Here's How to Actually Eat Healthier in 2016". The link will be placed at the bottom of the article and you can go ahead and read it yourself, but I think it's bullshit. Coming from someone who has been eating what is now considered "clean" for the past three years and have done so successfully for my first semester in college, it just will not work. For those who are too lazy to read the article, they lay out a 7 day meal plan where you eat 3 meals and two snacks a day.
Sure, eating healthy for the first seven days of 2016 can definitely be a start to something life changing and the recipes that Buzzfeed provides are actually very tasty combinations, which I definitely plan on trying myself. But, the one thing that this article is playing on is peoples' resolutions for the New Year, which is an idea that I have had issues with for a long time now.
Just because the year goes forward one year does not mean you are going to drastically change your life. I started eating healthy on a random day in October when it was a mere suggestion to me that maybe I should try it. I know several other success stories that did not start on January 1st. I am not saying people should throw out the idea of New Year's resolutions, but rather that only make resolutions that you will actually stick to. If your resolution is to work out more, then start going to the gym two times a week. Then bump it to three, and then four, and sooner rather than later you'll be in better shape than you've ever been in. Is your resolution is to eat healthier? Start by allowing yourself 3 cheat days a week, and slowly work your way to finding the foods that are healthy that you really enjoy and start sprinkling them in more frequently.
Don't make a New Year's resolution "just because", but make one because you really want to make some changes. Me personally? I want to be under 10% body fat while still being over 200 pounds. Currently I am sitting at 15.1% and I weigh 202 pounds. I'll keep all of you updated along the way. Work hard my friends, work hard.
Here's the link to the article. The food looks bangin' and I recommend that people try the recipes and even the plan if they'd like, but if something does not look appealing? Don't feel bad varying a little. Just keep it clean.
