What exactly does our future hold?
There are sometimes when I sit and think like some of the famous philosophers of the world: Socrates, Plato, Descartes and I go could go on. Man, the future of our generation doesn’t look great, Donald Trump, climate change, national debt going up, our dependency on technology and what I feel as though the extinction of personal communication skills. Then again I remember though why our generation is knowing as the wonder kids, advanced technology, more jobs than ever, better healthcare, increased charity and different ways of communicating. In this way, I am very confused as to what I want to think. Simply I believe no matter what generation you are in, progress happens and ideas are both expanded and abandoned. Thus, I will write on what I believe the future hold for our generation.
Disclaimer: I am not going to write in an orderly fashion, aka in a list, cause and effect, problem and argument. Instead, I will let my thoughts flow through. If this is a book on my philosophy, this is that winding intro
More than ever, our generation has been able to pick out issues that were never seen before. Our effects on the rainforest, birth defects caused by alcohol, global warming. In a way I am trying to say that we are gaining a better understanding of what we are in the world, the problems we cause, what issues affect us and how to find solutions about them. This is not to say humans have not done this throughout their history, we just haven’t done it at such a rapid pace, most of these issues have come in the last 100 years. That’s crazy thinking they were identified in the last 5,000 years of society.
There are, however, some concerns for the future. Sure, identifying global warming as a problem, and in theory, implementing solutions are both good things. According to some experts, though, these are feeble efforts, as the effects of global warming are already alarmingly bad, and will continue to get worse. Kind of a bummer? But alas, we are humans and we find a way to solve problems and if we can’t solve them then we cope. External forces have and always will be a problem for humans throughout society, but what about more internal problems?
Humans are losing the ability to speak. Personal communication, I fear, will become extinct because although technology has great enhanced overall communication, it is killing personal communication. College kids more than ever today don’t know how to speak, present, or get a message across, let alone trying to persuade someone. People are great on the Internet—they are very detailed and have nice arguments—but in public and in colleges, they are failing. Is this the fault of technology? No. It is our fault and maybe the rewards are better than the consequences, but its something to look out for
So where is our society heading? Who knows! Nobody knew 100 years ago, nobody knows now, but it's bound to be unpredictable.
