In today's world, it is so hard to find someone my age who reads newspapers. As a Communication/Journalism major, this is greatly disheartening. Currently, I write for my campus newspaper The Slate. Every week, I deliver 50 papers. The following week, I pick up 40 papers.
It breaks my heart that our staff puts so much work and effort into a great paper and only a few people actually pick it up and read it.
The local newspaper is one of the most important aspects of society.
Local newspapers don't cover international conflicts, wars, or politics. They cover local stories, news, sports, and opinion. They cover human interest stories about locals who are doing amazing things.
In today's society, I think it is important to see the human interest pieces rather than the conflicts, wars, and politics. The human interest pieces give hope to those of us trying to find our place in this everchanging world.
Newspapers are a look into the community you live in. Sure, you can find similar information online from Google, but it just isn't the same as going to the grocery store, picking up a physical paper and reading it.
So please, consider picking up a physical newspaper and catching up on your local news
So support a journalist and your community by buying a newspaper.
