"Some people come into our lives and quickly go. Some stay for a while, leave footprints on our hearts, and we are never, ever the same." -- Flavia Weedn
No matter how long you have known your best friend, they are who keep you grounded. A best friend is basically a sister from another mother. A best friend has multiple roles in our lives, and we are lucky to have that one person who understands every part of us. We should thank them for being there and being themselves because we would not be the same without them.
I was lucky enough to meet my best friend, my person, when I first moved from Louisiana to North Carolina. We met in our fifth grade class, and since then, Machayla and I have been friends for eight years. It is still hard to imagine that we have been friends for so long. We have been through ups and downs, thick and thin, and so much more. For example, when Machayla moved away, we had to make an effort to stay friends. In order to do this, we had to make time for Skype sessions and talk on the phone. Eventually, she moved back and our friendship was stronger than ever. Machayla has been there for me through so much, and I cannot thank her enough. She has been there for a laugh, a cry, or just when I needed to vent about whatever was happening in my life. I am so blessed to have her.
Best friends are hard to come by and we are lucky if we find that one person that we just click with. No matter how long you have known them, best friends are there for you no matter what. Best friends know all of your secrets, the good and bad. They know you the best, probably better than your parents and probably better than you know yourself. A best friend knows all your hopes and dreams. A best friend is there to make you laugh when you are having a rough day. They are the person there to live life with you and make life fun. A best friend knows every side of you--even the bad sides.
A best friend can turn the bad days into good ones. They can always sense when you are down and are there to pick you back up when you have fallen. A best friend will keep you sane and grounded, even when they annoy you like a sister. A great best friend can shape you into a better person. Your best friend is who you make all of your crazy memories with and they are the one you call when you're in trouble, the one who you would trust with your life.
The role of a best friend is serious, in my opinion. Having a best friend is essential in life. You have to have someone who you can always count on and always know that they will tell you the truth--even when the truth hurts. I guess there are a lot of things that go into making a best friend, but once you find your person, you know you got lucky.
