Opinions. Google defines it as "A view or judgment formed about something, not necessarily based on fact or knowledge." Every individual has a lot of them. A vast majority but not all people live in a society where they can simply express any opinion they want without censorship or restraint which is known as "Freedom of Speech".
Still, many people do not know about the consequences of their opinions nor do they know how fortunate they are to have this right. The ability to express an opinion does have their limits. Some opinions have to be kept to a minimal to avoid danger to others and to the person expressing the opinion. Now, it seems that danger is starting to become more noticeable.
Though, let's not forget the value of a person's opinion. Discussion about opinions with different people has been the forefront of modern growth in society. If people did not go such great lengths to prove opinions and their theories about a certain topic, who knows what life would be like in 2017? Having proper conversations about beliefs and ideals is very beneficial to all parties involved, but when the insults and punches start flying, that's a different ball game.
Over the last couple of months, in particular, opinions have been the main cause of all of the major changes in society. In America, you see numerous amounts of people talking about what's going on in Washington. The debate on several issues like health care and global warming is just the start, it brings concern and uncertainty to the country. During the election, backgrounds coming from Clinton and Trump had numerous Americans either scratching their heads, furious at the other side, making plans to move to Canada or everything else in between. What's depressing is that violence is sometimes used to get their views across. You've seen it in America, and it's escalated even further in Venezuela. The world is beginning to look more dangerous every day.
But does that mean, we should stop expressing opinions? Of course not. The thoughts of the few can never overcome the thoughts of the many. All of this growing danger is bringing people together. Worldwide protests and gatherings like the Women's March and the March for Science have shown that positive opinion change is possible. They demonstrate intelligence, unity, and positive potential across the world. Why hasn't the world reflected these qualities? Well, I'll let you answer that.
It's no secret that today's society is becoming more prideful in their opinions. Being this way can lead to amazing things, but such potential can lead to harsh things as well. At the end of the day, we still have our thoughts and beliefs no matter what kind of discussion we have. The only person in life you can truly control is yourself.
