The two greatest superheroes of all time are finally facing off in a live, big-screen adaptation "Batman v. Superman." I've been excited about this movie since I heard the initial announcement, but I would be lying if I said I was 100 percent sure it would be a slam dunk. My main concerns with the movie are that it seems like they might be trying to cram too much in one movie. After DC saw the success of Marvel's "The Avengers," they rushed to produce their own super-powered team: The Justice League. But, like Marvel, DC knew that it had to have origin stories for its members. Therein lies the problem: DC is rushing to get to its big team-up movie, and it might come at the cost of "Batman v Superman" being a great or even good movie.
"Batman v Superman" does have a lot of positives going on for it: Ben Affleck is an amazing actor. and I like all of the other additions to this movie cast, such as Jessie Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Jeremy Irons as Alfred, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman and Henry Cavil returning as Superman. I think it is a great cast with great acting skills.
However, a criticism of the movie is that some feel the trailers have given too much plot away. But, on MoviesFIghts, a podcast that I watch, Umberto Gonzalez claims there is still a huge surprise for fans waiting to see the movie. I'm also not sold yet on Zack Synder's direction for the DC Universe. It might be a tad too dark if every character in the movie is as brooding as Superman and Batman. Zack Synder always seems to worry about cinematography over actual plot and character development. This movie will need some comedic relief if it's to be successful, but I think Jessie Eisenberg will provide that comedic relief for the movie.
With all this in mind, I'm still very excited for this movie, and I have very high expectations but remain concerned. I think this movie will be a critical and commercial success and establish itself as one of the better comic movies of all time. I think, even with the shaky direction from Zack Synder, the wonderful acting from the cast will overcome and deliver a wonderful movie.
