"The Golden Girls" is a classic sitcom created by Susan Harris that revolves around four, older single women: Blanche Devereaux, Rose Nylund, Dorothy Zbornak, and Sophia Petrillo, all living under one roof in Miami. As a child, when my parents were working hard and my days were spent at my aunt and uncle's house, my television experience consisted of two shows: "The Three Stooges" and "The Golden Girls," both of which are still some of my favorite shows to watch.
Watching "The Golden Girls" now, there comes a realization with the witty and funny one-liners that the women throw at us, and that is that they are us, despite the age difference. The characters of "The Golden Girls" embody what college is like to a T.
1. Rose: That one student in the class that comes in high all the time.
Either they are genuinely high, or they just say things that make them seem to be. We all have that one student in the class; the one that makes everyone, even the professor, internally groan when they raise their hand. However, despite this, they are usually the ones in the class that brings the most entertainment, and can sometimes end up being the best person you make friends within the class (no matter what comes out of their mouth.)
2. Dorothy: The cynical one that doesn't ever seem to be enjoying anything.
I am guilty of being a Dorothy from time to time. She certainly embodies the type of student that, no matter the class, does not want to be there. They find faults and flaws in everything about the class, and college in general, and simply sit in their corner and mope the whole time. Like Dorothy, though, that doesn't mean they're not paying attention. In fact, they usually get the highest grades in the class.
3. Blanche: The student that is always hooking up or fooling around (but still manages to get good grades).
This kind of student is guilty of trying to spot the most attractive sex in the classroom before choosing where they sit. They're charming, alluring, and often know how to entertain the people around them with their words. The only downside to these types of students is the fact that you can never know whether to trust them, as they never take anything seriously. Though once you get to know them, they might surprise you.
4. Sophia: Similar to Dorothy, she is every professor that makes you wonder why they ever got into teaching.
Let's face it, the majority of our professors are Sophias. They are brutally honest if someone asks a dumb question, they don't give a lot of homework simply because they don't want to grade it, and they are always equipped with a sarcastic response at hand. Although cynical as hell, these professors sometimes become the people you look up to in college, since you know they will always give you an honest answer.
