Many of you have just graduated, your already being asked questions like:
"What school are you planning on attending?"
"What majors have you looked into?"
"Have you applied for scholarships?"
It can be overwhelming! But I'm here to tell you, that it is okay to be undecided.To maybe not know what your major is going to be or what field is right for you! If this is you, then keep on reading!
Deciding what your going to pursue can be scary. It feels as though that's what everyone want's to know. Some may feel as though you disappointing them for not knowing. But your not! Being undecided gives you so much opportunity! It gives you the option to try classes you wouldn't have otherwise taken if you had a designated major and minor! Doing this it will help you learn what you like and dislike, which is important, it can help narrow your decision.
College is so different from high school, when picking classes remember that!
Don't get discouraged, just because you don't know what you want do today. It doesn't mean you won't tomorrow or the next day. In an instant, everything can change. Use your experiences to guide you and help you decide. If you find something that potentially interests you, try to shadow someone in the field! Research, talk to people who's already in the program or majoring in it.
Money is great but don't let it be soley but drives you to persue something.
Use your strengths and weaknesses to help guide you. Be careful though, don't let them discourage you. We all have a class we may struggle with more than others. Don't let that scare you into perusing something you could potentially love! Not every class you take in college will be easy and not every professor is out to be your friend. But the ones, who care about you and you end goal, will remind each class why you want to do it.
When you finally decide a major or minor it can be scary! You may feel like your in over your head, that you might not be able to do it! But you can! Sometimes, the biggest critics is ourselves. Find people who support and encourage you! Sometimes a small "You can do this! I know you can!" will help you push through the hardest of classes.
As you venture into depths of your major or minor, remember it's okay to change your mind. In twenty years from now, you want to wake up every morning loving your job. Find what your passionate about and use that as a guide. While the journey may not be an easy one, but it will definitely be worth it in the end!
