To The Girl Starting An Adventure:
You’re about to do something you’ve never done before. You’re traveling somewhere new, and you’re doing it completely on your own. It’s an adventure and experience that’ll be entirely your own.
It’s both absolutely exciting and absolutely terrifying. That’s absolutely okay.
When you’re on a journey to an unknown experience, it's easy to be intimidated by the obstacles in front of you. If something goes wrong, it's completely your fault. If you get hurt, then you have to take responsibility for it.
From someone who is also going on a new journey right now, I can tell you that you'll have moments of homesickness. You'll miss the familiarity of being around people you know and having the same old routines you memorized. Sometimes, you'll have days where you just miss the normalness of having everything around you be the same-old thing. Habits are a safenet we’ve learned to hold on to. Once we have become dependent on the safenet, it’s hard to become confident enough to let them go.
Yet I can also tell you that you’ll have moments of achievement. You’ll feel proud of yourself for taking this jump into the unknown, for being willing to learn more about yourself, and to take the opportunity that you wouldn’t have at home. You are doing something really, really good for yourself.
It’ll be great, you know. For every bad moment that you have, you’ll have a quiet moment of victory as you learn how to be better for yourself. You’ll learn life lessons for the future and continue to grow into the person you are meant to be.
And even though you’ll feel all alone, that’s not always the case. In my new journey, I’ve developed a support system that reminds me to breathe during moments of panic and to cheer when I’ve done something right. Although I still miss home most of the time, I feel like I’ve been enveloped into a home-like community here.
So even though you’re scared and incredibly nervous for the unknown things coming your way, I can tell you that it’ll be worth it. There will be some struggles with it, definitely, but you’ll make it through. I’ve made it through so far. Just take it one day and one breathe at a day.
Sincerely,
Another adventurer.
