Look how far our society has come.
We have come to a place where we have chosen to live in color. Not too long ago where our society was comfortable being muzzled by the thoughts of seeing in black and white.
This change did not happen because people had a change of heart. It happened because there were people that decided to live and love past the stigmas society created about interracial relationships.
Whites with whites and blacks with blacks.
That was the standards and if it was challenged society made is known that it was not accepted. Where if a black man was with a white woman he was arrested. Where if a white man was with a black woman his house was burned down. If an interracial couple had children, those children were chastised by teachers and students.Making it clear to them that their parents had an unclean marriage, which made them unclean. What these people went through for the ones they loved, falling in love with someone's inner layers of their soul rather than the tone of their skin.
The first steps needed to be taken to push, to push through the glass ceiling that didn't stick to the cookie cutter image of what love looked like.
It is not of a light matter that this drastic change has happened in our generation. The millennial generation is the generation of new beginnings and open minds. This is the generation that decided to think outside the standard thought patterns of the people around us. We love who we love, respect without looking at skin color and do not let the sideways looks that linger on the faces of people that choose to be narrow-minded.
We as a generation of open minds will not be able to help everyone to be able to see through our own point of view. But never stop loving who you love. Because even though this is the generation of new beginnings and new thought patterns, there will always be people that will always believe blacks belong with blacks and whites belong with whites.
